Ex-team boss Horner apparently collects mega compensation

Christian Horner was actually under contract with Red Bull Racing for several years. The former team boss now received a severance payment in astronomical height.

The chapter Christian Horner found a final end at Formula 1 giant Red Bull Racing. The Englishman was released in the role of team leader in July after 20 years. In a Rennstalls message from Monday, it was said that “Horner will leave the team today.”

The 51-year-old spoke in the statement of his long-time employer. He was “incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a team” and referred to not possible but still broken records and reached heights. “I will wear that in my heart forever,” said Horner.

Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff thanked the ex-racing driver for the “extraordinary work”. Horner has “with his tireless commitment, experience, his expertise and innovative thinking […] contributed significantly to establish Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1. “

Horner had led to eight driver and six designer world championship titles since the racing team was founded in 2005. According to reports, his contract reported until 2030. According to BBC Sport, Red Bull and Horner have now agreed on a severance payment. Accordingly, Horner collects 60 million euros in order to officially end the employment relationship.

A reason for the discharge a few months ago was not communicated in the announcement of Monday. Red Bull had not given any official information in July either. The fact is, however: In the past, there had always been controversy around Horner.

In February, Red Bull initiated an independent investigation against him. According to the accusation, Horner should have behaved inappropriately to an employee of the racing team. Later, however, he was acquitted of any misconduct. The image damage for Red Bull was still immense.

In addition, the relationship with Jos Verstappen has always been tense and repeatedly culminated in public skirmishes. For example, the father of four-time world champion Max Verstappen had heavily criticized Horner around the scandal about the employee and more or less clearly demanded the team leader’s outsourcing.
