In the meantime, Werner is said to have stood in the past few weeks shortly before moving to Leipzig’s sister club New York Red Bulls. However, the deal failed due to the high salary demands of the striker, who came back to the Bundesliga from FC Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for 20 million euros. Werner, who had gone to London two years earlier and won the Champions League there for 53 million euros, was paid for this step. He should earn around 10 million euros in Leipzig until his contracting end – more than twice as much as any other professional in the squad.

Within the Leipzig squad, the return of the striker, which is one of the record players at RB with 213 missions, was positively received. “He was greeted by the fans.
