The decathlon at the World Athletics World Cup in Tokyo continues: Niklas Kaul continues his chase, Leo Neugebauer remained over 110 meters of hurdles. Nevertheless, he also climbed overall, since favorite Sander Skotheim surprisingly left.
It was the sensation in the first discipline on the second day: the Norwegian Skotheim, as the world year’s best in Tokyo, came out of kick at the sixth hurdle and then could no longer regularly overcome the seventh hurd. The gold candidate, placed in second class in the overall classification after the first day, was disqualified and eliminated.
Among other things, the two German decathlon in competition benefited: Niklas Kaul won his run in 14.45 seconds. With the very good time for him, he made points well and climbed to seventh place in the overall ranking after day one.
Sander Skotheim could not believe his World Cup after the hurdles.
Leo Neugebauer, who won Olympic silver in Paris last year, finished 14.80 seconds. He remained about four tenths of a second over his best time (14.41). In the ranking, however, he went from four position to three.
Even the leading end in the overall ranking, Kyle Garland, did not get well over the hurdles. In 14.30 seconds he stayed almost a second above his personal best.
Kyle Garland continued in the lead
Garland leads in front of the remaining four disciplines with 5643 points ahead of Ayden Owens-Delerme from Puerto Rico (5507), Neugebauer has 5329 points in his account, at Kaul it is 5084. The world champion of Doha 2019 has its strengths on the second day, especially in the javelin throw, he could still make points compared to the competition.
After the discus throw, the pole vault (4.20 a.m.) follows, then the javelin throw in two groups (10.35/11.47 a.m.) and the final run over 1500 meters (1:49 p.m.).
Neugebauer and Kaul bite each other through day one
Neugebauer, who had finished fifth at the World Cup in Budapest two years ago, had completed a mixed first day in Tokyo. Usually the strengths of the German record holder lie in these disciplines, but over 100 meters, in the long jump and also in the high jump he stayed below his possibilities. The 25-year-old took fourth place.
The 27 -year -old Kaul also started the first day moderately, but then increased continuously. In the overall ranking, the Mainzer climbed from almost the back to the fifth discipline thanks to the good high jump performance and a strong 400-meter run from almost the back.
Early for Ehammer and Steinforth
The title candidate Skotheim was not the first athlete in Tokyo in Tokyo in Tokyo. The Swiss Simon Ehammer had three invalid attempts at his entry height of 1.93 meters in the high jump and was also out afterwards. The third German starter, Till Steinforth, had to fit after three disciplines due to pain after a groin operation. Of the originally 24 ten -fighters in the start list, there are only 17 after six disciplines.
The start of the start was not surprisingly vice world champion and Tokyo Olympic champion Damian Warner (Canada) due to Achilles tendon problems. Olympic champion Markus Rooth (Norway) had already canceled in advance. Olympic champion Markus Rooth from Norway had also had to paint his start after a training accident.
