The 67-year-old Inge from Amsterdam enjoyed the warm sand under her feet on the beach this morning. Her dog Bella enjoys the warm sun next to her on the couch. “Soon she will swim for a while. Also a bit of fun for her. That’s how we both have something.”
Inge and Bella were not the only ones who visited the coast today. On a rug, on the edge of the water, we find a young family from Hoofddorp. De Kleine Wouter frolics around his parents through the sand. Mother Kirsten did not hesitate when she saw the weather forecast. “We immediately use it. Nice to the beach. Enjoy it with our son.”
‘The water is delicious’
A few meters away, Kiki gets out of the water. “Delicious!” She still shouts on her glasses with the drops. “He is still a bit wild, but I am always very careful with the sea.” She doesn’t mind the fresh breeze. “The water is delicious.” The Haarlem hopes to be able to take a dip a few more times in the coming weeks. “As long as the sea water remains pleasant, it is best to do. Then you can continue for a long time, you know.”
Not only the bathers are happy with the high temperatures. Beach tenters are also happy with the perfect weather. “23 degrees and not too much wind. Then the entire beach is full,” says Niels Priester of Paviljoen Mango’s Beachbar.
Priest looks back on a beautiful beach season, although it was not full of his beach tent all summer. “It started fantastic. It was a wonderful preseason.” Later in the summer it became quieter according to the beach tent owner. “Then it unfortunately fell quite well.”
One of the four hottest summers
Although according to the KNMI it was one of the four hottest summers ever measured, the real warm days were not forthcoming. And that is necessary for a good beach day. “It was often nice for the garden or on the terrace, but it was just too cold for the beach,” says priest. Fortunately for him the tap can open today. “I expect a lot of people to come in this way.”
Monday is really the start of the meteorological autumn. Although she would rather have the summer, Badgast Inge is looking forward to the fall. “Well, autumn has something again. We don’t do anything about it. Fortunately we can’t arrange nature.”
