From a feeling of tension, fear and uncertainty to complete euphoria. The volunteers of SV Borger can hardly believe what has happened in recent days. Within three days they sold more than 17,700 lottery tickets for their Ferrari lottery and thus still achieved their goal.
“It’s unprecedented. We are completely perplexed,” says Arne Joling happy. “At a certain point the national fame and suddenly thousands of lots flew through.”
With less than a week until the draw, they had to sell more than 17,000 lottery tickets. “That gives so much stress and panic. I am not going to do this again,” says Joling. “But that is sliding away from you in one go.”
The club came up with the lottery to raise money for their new clubhouse on the Drift in Borger. The municipality pays for this, but the football players also had to put in 300,000 euros themselves.
The goal has been achieved, but there are more lottery tickets for sale. The draw will follow next Monday. That they now come up with a positive result is a major relief for the volunteers. “That is bizarre. We crawled through the eye of the needle.”
To thank everyone who has bought a lottery ticket, the club will praise an extra prize at the last minute. That is a 16-day tour in South Africa. “And Monday we are all going to celebrate.”
