The Dresden Eislöwen won the DEL for the first time in the third attempt. At the end it was 6: 3 in the Löwen duel in Frankfurt. In seven furious minutes, the promoted team scored three goals for the 4-1 intermediate stand. Nevertheless, it got tight again. And: Doping sinner Dane Fox of all people had a large part in his comeback.
In the first third, both teams saw the uncertainty after two opening places. A relatively torn game with numerous false passes developed. Frankfurt was also harder in the checks. But after a strong puck win and quick switching over David Suvanto and Travis Turnbull, the guests went 1-0 in front by Dane Fox (10th). After his doping lock, the Canadian was back on the ice for the first time due to a positive cannabis test.
However, the Hesse remained dangerous in front and Dennis Lobach poked a rebound for 1: 1 (15th). In a strong power play shortly before the first break, Andrew Yogan (17th) and Trevor Parkes (18th) had the lead again on the racket.
Three Eislöwen goals in seven minutes
For the second section, Dresden turned up properly. Bully won, a pass, a shot and parking had put it to 2-1 after roughly ten seconds. Austin Ortega banged the 3: 1 over the shoulder of the goalies in the mesh – dream goal (26th)! Just 63 seconds later, Lance Bouma stayed cool when he pushed the thing over the line after a cream pass from Emil Johansson – 4: 1 (27th).
Thomas Andres and Travis Turnbull look forward to the lead goal
Dresden lets Frankfurt come back
After the 1: 9 debacle against Wolfsburg in the first home game, the Frankfurt fans had evil and whistled their team. But the lions fought and the Saxons bought two bitter carvers. At first an unnecessary loss of windows invited the home side to a 2-1 overpayment situation, the Lion newcomer Ty Glover completed the crossbar to 2: 4 (33.). Glover was only flown in from Canada in Frankfurt on Wednesday.
Then the otherwise strong goalie Julius Hudacek dropped the puck in a shot from Cameron Brace and Brace dusted himself to 3: 4 (39th). An annoying hit, especially since from time to the Eislöwen.
Clever final third ensures the away success
But in the last third, the Dresdeners showed their entire routine in the squad and put on a ripped off section. Again the Fox returned after three months of lock, Andrew Yogan staged in the scene. The American thundered the disc into the right angle. His premiere goal at 33 in the DEL – 5: 3 (47th). With Forechecking, the guests then largely kept the opponent away from their own goal. Shortly before the end, Yogan marked the 6: 3 final score with an Empty-Net goal.
Dane Fox called out a brilliant performance after his doping lock.
Conclusion: Dresden increased despite some mistakes in the building game. Frankfurt was clearly superior to the special teams (i.e. power play and outnumber). In addition, the offensive series with the experienced Trevor Parkes, Austin Ortega and Andrew Yogan correctly delivered in this important victory. And with more won bullys from the second third, a previous weakness was parked. This encourages that the promoted team in the DEL can keep up.
