The idea of combining the electronic and the mechanical closing technique on a button “makes a lot of sense,” said Tesla’s chief designer Franz von Holzhausen in a podcast of the Bloomberg financial service. This could open the doors of inmates “in panic situations”, he explained. “That is something we are working on.”

According to initial knowledge of the authority, the trigger of the problems was that the door locks were not able to get any electricity. In order to open it from the outside, according to the user manual 12-volt current, an external source must be connected to two specific places, as the NHTSA emphasized. Teslas have a separate circuit with its own battery for windows, doors and the touchscreen.
