Atletico Madrid’s coach Diego Simeone was clashed with a fan after the final whistle in Liverpool – he sees himself poorly protected.
Simeone’s team had in the game at Liverpool FC Balanced after a 0-2 deficit, but conceded the 2: 3 in added time.
Cheers broke out among the Liverpool fans. In the area next to the replacement bench Atleticos, there was an argument between a fan and Simeone, folder and Atletico employee held back the trainer.
Referee Maurizio Mariani from Italy then showed Simeone the red card that he now has to expect a lock, at least for the upcoming home game against Eintracht Frankfurt (September 30, 9 p.m.).
Simeone: “We too can be angry”
Simeone spoke in the press conference after the game about the incident. “We trainers have no right not to answer or react. And it is never good if we do it”said Simeone. The trainers are on stage and thus in the focus, “We have to behave well”. He compared the process with the fight against racism. It is not easy to get the whole game off. “We too can get angry.”
In his view, he explained the process. “I turned around, he insulted me. I am a person, a person”said Simeone. The fan, around which the incident turned, was captured during the game of television cameras during the game, as he showed derogatory gestures over Simeone and Atletico’s teams.
Upon request, Simeone did not want to explain which insults were given. “I can’t solve the problems of society in a press conference. I have to live with it.”
Liverpool has not yet commented
So far, FC Liverpool has not commented on whether the fan was identified and whether the behavior will arrange for the club to take any sanctions against the man.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot said that he could not assess the situation: “I don’t know exactly what happened.”
