What he showed today was sow strong.” Already after the best width of his protégé, the coach said: “Whether he shocked the competition with it will still turn out. But it is a great performance in the first attempt. One and a half meters above your own best performance.
Hummel’s previous personal best was 81.27 meters before the World Cup. In his fourth attempt in Tokyo, Hummel came to 82.17 meters, so also over this width.
His trainer also emphasized that Hummel did a lot for his success. “He does a mental training. We often only have training sessions in two, where we train in peace and go through the technology.
Hummel kept their nerves in a strong field of participants in the final. The Canadian and Olympic champion of Paris, Ethan Katzberg secured gold. The world champion of 2023 defended his title at 84.70 meters. The Hungarian Bence Halász, who won the World Cup bronze two years ago, secured this medal again with 82.69 meters.
