Manuel Neuer from FC Bayern recently excluded a return to the German national soccer team. A decision that fans welcome.
According to a Forsa survey for the “Stern”, 41 percent of Germans would not be good at Manuel Neuer in the goal of the DFB team.
Only 26 percent are for it, 33 percent were not expressed.
Above all, the participants of the survey, who describe themselves as interested in football, rejected a return from new ones. They are 64 percent against it and only 29 percent for it.
Most supporters can still be found among the 18 to 29 year olds (36 percent). The 45 to 59-year-olds (50 percent) are the most skeptical.
The data was collected on September 11th and 12th by phone among 1006 respondents.
The exact wording of the question was: “A year after his resignation, there is speculation about a possible return from goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to the German national soccer team. They would like it if Manuel Neuer returned to the national team, or would they not like that?”
The new excludes return to the national team
Last weekend Neuer excluded to return to the DFB goal.
“The fact is that I decided not to play for the national team anymore,” said the 39-year-old after the 5-0 victory against Hamburger SV in the mixed zone. When asked whether it remains “definitely”, he said briefly: “Yes.”
Neuer had officially resigned from the national team after the home European Championships in the summer of 2024. Since then, Marc-André Ter Stegen has been the number one, but the 33-year-old currently has to struggle with health problems and is no longer a regular at FC Barcelona.
In the recent games of the World Cup qualification, Oliver Baumann from TSG Hoffenheim was therefore in German goal. However, national coach Julian Nagelsmann had emphasized that they would continue to rely on Ter Stegen as soon as he was completely fit and in the rhythm of the game.
