On Tuesday evening, the Champions League starts the second season with the new league format. All 36 teams each play eight games, the opponents were largely drawn by computer on August 28th. As in the past, four loose pots were created, each club has to deal with two teams. But who actually got the toughest opponents in the draw? At least as far as the squad value is concerned, the answer is: Paris Saint-Germain, closely followed by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Together, the eight opponents of PSG result in a squad value of 5.22 billion euros. FC Barcelona only has the reigning champion to deal with a team that outbids the billion mark. However, both from a lottery pot three (Tottenham Hotspur and Sporting Lisbon) as well as from pot four (Newcastle United and Athletic Bilbao) were drawn to the team of coach Luis Enrique. It also goes against FC Bayern, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Atalanta Bergamo.

In fact, the Frankfurt schedule is similar in parts of PSG: Eintracht must also exist against Barcelona, Tottenham and Atalanta. In addition, on October 22, FC Liverpool, another club with one billion value comes into the main metropolis.

The other German participants are at least a little better served on paper, but FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund also caught an above -average duels. The Munich residents meet opponents with a total value of 4.44 billion euros (11th of 36), BVB has to go against accumulated 4.18 billion euros (15th place). Only Leverkusen is 22nd with 3.99 billion euros and below the average.

At a clear distance The lightest program was drawn to Europa League winner Tottenham Hotspur. The opponents of the Spurs, including FK Bodø/Glimt, Slavia Prague, FC Copenhagen and AS Monaco, are only counted towards a value of 2.66 billion euros – about half of the opponents of PSG.
