The German national basketball team shows the fans a day after their victory at the European Championship in Frankfurt. The mood of the main sponsor is exuberant, and birthday child Dennis Schröder is celebrated.
Just in time for the beginning of the celebrations, the weather in Frankfurt adapted the optical appearance of the European basketball champions. The sun drove out the autumn rain around 1 p.m. and welcomed them to the German soil almost without exception with large sunglasses from the plane and then the bus.
It remains to be seen whether the dark glasses actually protect against UV radiation or rather hide the eyes drawn by the title party. “I don’t think some slept,” reported temporary coach Alan Ibrahimagic.
Party continues in downtown Frankfurt
And what had already started in the hall after the furious 88: 83 final victory against Turkey and continued in a rootop bar in the old town of Riga, then went into the next round after the return from Latvia. Admittedly, for an after -hour there are definitely more suitable locations in Frankfurt than the headquarters of the main sponsor in the city center. Dennis Schröder, Franz Wagner and Co., who had celebrated the World Cup title at this point two years ago, it didn’t matter.
Flight, bus ride and the collectives get out also extended on Monday – this is actually a tradition at receptions. The party starting shot was delayed by more than an hour. But then the European Championship heroes stormed into the epicenter of the celebration under thunderous applause and were received there by a moderator duo, two mascots (Adler Arnold and Löwe), a final countdown loop and several hundred fans. The police later even spoke of a total of 1,000 onlookers.
There were many orange sponsor hats in the audience, happy faces and a large trophy on the stage. Captain, MVP and birthday child Schröder showed up as the last and proudly presented the trophy. This was followed by the mandatory champagne shower, “This is how winners look out” and first a serenade for Schröder. “We are extremely celebrating that you are all here,” he said, recalling the successes of the past few years. “2022 EM bronze, 2023 world champion, fourth at the Olympics, now European champion. That is big.”
The OB trembles and thanks it
Frankfurt’s mayor Mike Josef (SPD) was the first congratulator and thanked the “Golden Generation” for wonderful weeks. “Boy, what did I tremble yesterday,” he said before he also congratulated Schröder on his honorary day and the entire team on an outstanding performance. “You are role models and mentality monsters. You are like a family that supports each other.”
After the many warm words, the team took time for autographs and selfies. The joy among the fans present was great. “Basketball is just mad sexy,” emphasized the former Frankfurter Isaac Bonga at the very end. After this game in Riga and this day in Frankfurt there is nothing to add.
