The associations in the municipality of Oss will receive money from the municipality next year, because they miss out on income because they are no longer allowed to collect old paper. Alderman Dolf Warris announced this on Monday in a letter to the associations.

Associations in the municipality of Oss are still helping to collect old paper. In exchange, the associations receive a reimbursement that is often based on the amount that has been collected. But from January 1 they have to stop.

According to the municipality, it would be too difficult to find drivers in the evenings and at the weekend. Moreover, the safety requirements have been tightened, which would make the responsibility towards the volunteers of the associations too great. The municipality is therefore planning to have old paper collected completely by a professional company.

The decision was bad at the associations in the municipality of Oss. For many of them, picking up old paper is an important source of income. “We have always done everything nicely. And then you will receive an email from one day to the next that it stops. That’s not how you deal with associations?”, Giel van der Leest from football club RKSV Cito said to Omroep Brabant earlier.

Two weeks ago, alderman Dolf Warris apologized for the way of communicating. Now he wants to compensate the associations in 2026 by giving them the same amount as they earn in 2025 with the collection of old paper.

Chairman Wendy van den Berk of RKSV Cito responds satisfied to the letter. “This is what we asked the municipality.”

There will also be a meeting for the associations soon to discuss together with the municipality how income can be obtained in a different way from 2027. “That will be something different for every association,” says Van den Berk.
