Cycling superstar Tadej Pogacar gave his team-mate Brandon McNulty victory at the Grand Prix of Monttréal.

The Tour-de-France winner from the Rennstall UAE Emirates-XRG was already rapid over the 209.1 kilometers in the last part of the Canada double pack, but then waited for the American and left his noble helper on the home stretch.

Tour third Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) was left behind at an early stage and, like the race in Québec, rose from the finish. Third finished McNulty’s compatriot Quinn Simmons with a gap to the top duo of 1:03 minutes.

With the 85th win of the season, the UAE racing stable set the record for most success in one year of Colombia-HTC. The then team around the top sprinter André Greipel and Mark Cavendish had set up the record in 2009.

The Slovenian Pogacar had only returned to the race in Québec on Friday from a longer break after the Tour of France. For the 26-year-old, who was preparing for the World Cup in Rwanda (September 21 to 28) in the Francophone part of Canada, it would have been the successful title defense in Montreal in the previous year, the host of the World Cup next year.
