What did you finally pay for the project?
Krewinkel: “I must continue to guilty that answer. I can say that there is no cheaper labor. If you look at the housing costs, additional support and internship costs, I almost dare to say that a Dutch student had been cheaper.
We had to pay an amount for the students to Yomema, which had a lot of work to get the people here. That was only in the first year. In addition, the students received a scholarship and the wage in accordance with the collective labor agreement. “
Were they obliged to work at Zorggroep Drenthe, in addition to their internship and education?
De Vries: “No, but many students have chosen that because it is practical.”
Krewinkel: “We offered that they could contribute to healthcare for a maximum of sixteen hours a week. But it was not an obligation.”
Is that clear enough communicated to the Indonesian students?
Krewinkel: “Communication remains a thing in the entire project. You simply have to deal with two completely different cultures and languages.”
De Vries: “We have regularly mentioned that you can work at Zorggroep Drenthe up to sixteen hours a week, but that of course is not. Despite the fact that many students have improved their language skills, language remains a challenge.”
In the past, a number of Indonesian nurses have complained about the working conditions. They were talking about broken services, working every weekend, not paying overtime. Do you recognize yourself in that?
In overtime hours that have not been paid, I do not recognize us. As far as broken services and many weekends work, I think it could not be otherwise. The moment you study two days, two days and also want to work for sixteen hours, then you are busy six days a week. The sound that people have lost all their weekends would also have been heard. “
De Vries: “Later we resolved that with Avans+ through the study day that was meant to spar with each other.”
Krewinkel: “We try to do everything we can to prevent it from happening, but I don’t dare to exclude that. I can imagine that it happened to the Indonesian students. Because they wanted to play those sixteen hours.”
