A great gift for himself: Thomas Müller hits three times for the Vancouver Whitecaps on his 36th birthday and celebrates a historical victory.
The first game could not have run much better for Thomas Müller after the international break. The ex-international wins 7-0 against Philadelphia Union with his Vancouver Whitecaps in the North American football league MLS. It is the highest league victory in the club’s history of the Canadian club to date – and Müller has a large part.
On his 36th birthday, Müller presents himself in Torlaune. The striker scores twice in the first half (30th and 45th+1 minute) and sets the end of the shooting festival with his header in the 88th minute.
The ex-international also perfectly prepared the fifth goal of the Whitecaps. Emmanuel Sabbi Schlent Müller’s template into the net (61.). Previously, the American born in Italy had also taken 2-0 (24th), Mathías Laborda to 1-0 for Vancouver (18th). The 17 -year -old Rayan Elloumi marked the 6: 0 (80th).
“I feel really good to be honest. It was a great team performance. When I look into these eyes … Rayan (Elloumi, D. Red.) Show his first goal. I think it was his first professional game at all. We did Philly 7-0. The audience was fantastic. I think it was a perfect evening,” says Müller after the triumph in the interview at Apple TV. However, Müller’s statement was not quite correct, Elloumi had already been used for eight minutes in June.
The victory at this height was not to be expected before the start of the game, because Philadelphia is one of the top teams in the MLS. The team of coach Bradley Carnell (ex-Bundesliga player) is currently leader of the Eastern Conference. Vancouver is in second place in the Western Conference. With 52 points, the Whitecaps have now solved the ticket for the KO round at an early stage.
For Müller and his teammates, the next game is already on Tuesday. Vancouver meets FC Forge in the semi-final second leg of the Canadian Cup. The first leg ended 2: 2. Next Saturday, Müller’s first away game will follow when Vancouver starts at Sporting Kansas City.
