In Argentina, almost half of university students come from families in poverty (46.8% according to INDEC). However, inequality makes only a minority of the most vulnerable young people to graduate. While in the first year of career the students of the poorest decile represent 7.9% of the total, for the fifth year they barely reach 1%. On the other hand, those of higher income double their presence in the final stretch of the university.

This early abandonment is one of the main concerns of the university system. And while responding to multiple causes, economic difficulties lead the list: facing transportation, notes or connectivity is usually an obstacle as large as taking an exam.

Scholarships +Future: A bridge for younger to reach the goal

Aware of this structural problem, Banco Galicia and the University of Buenos Aires renewed their alliance to carry out the 3rd edition of the Scholarship +Future program.

This year, 1,500 students of the common basic cycle will receive financial support from $ 280,000 annually, which implies a total investment of $ 420,000,000.

The goal is to be at the most critical moment: the first steps in the university. We want each student to have the necessary tools to sustain their education and build the future that dreams”, Explains María Florencia Pereira, strategic social investment leader of Banco Galicia.
