Cillian Murphy will not take on the role of Voldemort in the HBO currently developed by HBO. In a recent appearance in the Podcast Happy Sad Confused by Josh Horowitz, the actor made it clear, that the rumors about his line -up as a villain is nothing.
Cast and production
“I don’t know anything about it,” said Murphy, adding that his children occasionally show him the “Voldemort” rumors. “It is also really difficult to continue something that Ralph Fiennes did. The man is an absolute acting legend. So, good luck to the one who will step into these footsteps.”
The upcoming new edition as a TV series is staged by Mark Mylod, with Francesca Gardin as a show runner. Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton take over the roles from Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermine Granger. John Lithgow plays Dumbledore, while Janet McTeer, as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost, joined the cast as Rubus Hagrid.
At the beginning of the year, Lithgow defended his decision for the role despite the hostile statements by author JK Rowling, who acts as an executive producer. “Of course it was a big decision because it is probably the last major role that I will play,” he said. “It is an obligation over eight years, so I thought about mortality and that this is a very good final role.”
HBO over Rowling
In May, HBO content boss Casey Bloy in The Town-Podcast said: “The decision to work with JK Rowling is nothing new for us. We have been working with her for 25 years … We already have a series with her on HBO called CB Strike. It is pretty clear that this is your personal, political views. Settled with anything.
