Uli Hoeneß caused a sensation with statements on a TV show-it was primarily about sports director Max Eberl. Now the person addressed has spoken out.

Max Eberl commented on the debate about the last statements of Bavaria’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß on Friday. At the matchday press conference, the sports director said: “I would like to reveal a secret. If topics are buried, we say: And now football. Now it’s really about football and nothing else.”

Max Eberl would rather forget the excitement of the past few days – and look ahead. Too much seems to be written and the words spoke.

After that, however, he added something on request: “I am the one who wants to do a good job. I started 16 months ago, it was definitely not an easy situation. We first have to define the word sensitive. If you don’t feel anything, it is very cold. Our whole society is often very ruthless in our time.”

For what Eberl does, he is burning and doing it with passion. “We found an outstanding trainer last summer, as a person, but also as a trainer. It was then about changing the squad,” said Eberl. “The contract extensions were essential. Now in the summer we changed the squad again. The structure of talents must never be a hype. We have started to reduce costs and generate income. We stand for that. My heart is here, I have a lot in front and want to be successful with Bayern Munich.”

Uli Hoeneß had described Eberl as “quite sensitive” during a appearance in the Sport1 “double pass” and indicated disagreements in transfer questions. When asked whether he had now talked to Max Eberl, Hoeneß replied on Thursday as part of an appointment for Munich’s Olympic application. “I have no reason to speak to Max at all. I think that what I said is absolutely okay. That is the truth. The truth will stay that way.”

At the end of the summer transfer phase, Hoeneß and the supervisory board of the German record champions had prohibited Eberl to buy new players, but only allowed rental deals. Shortly before the end, Bayern won Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea. Hoeneß then revealed that in 2026 the obligation to buy the striker would only take 40 starting work. “He can’t play these 40 games at all,” the 73-year-old calculated, referring to the games in the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Cup in the “Doppelpass”.
