It is one of the larger TV flops in recent years: RTL Tonight. Channel boss Peter van der Vorst has fermented huge by not focusing on growth -brilliant Renze Klamer, but to create a program in which his talk show hosts have to play more or less boulevardje. It doesn’t all work and that is a bitter pill.

Albert back to VI?

Albert Verlinde is one of the experts who has been bought away from the competition by RTL Tonight. Of course he has an incredible regret that he has left Inside success number today. Does he want back? “Yes, but I really like that … I don’t like that about the team to say something like that anyway.”

“Because what people sometimes forget – you can think of everything about it – that people are busy doing the program day in and day out,” he tells De Telegraaf. “Very editors. Then of course you don’t say things like this that you now ask. Apart from that it doesn’t play at all.”

“I don’t regret it”

Does not regret Albert? “No, I don’t regret it. You should never regret things. Of course you prefer it to score higher. The market share is 20 percent within the messenger group, so that’s very high.”

But less than 300 thousand viewers is just dredger? “Yes, it is hard to say that they are very high figures, but I can’t do much about it. All you can do is your smelly best.”

Unexpected

Albert did not see this coming. “No, I didn’t expect that, because otherwise you don’t say yes. I come inside today and there the figures are of course a lot and much higher. Of course you don’t hope so, but I have entered the adventure and then you have to make sure you get things in order now. It is now a week.”

He continues: “Let’s hope it will be fine. I have to say: I especially pay attention to myself. I just think I have to do my best, everyone has to do that, and it is up to the channel and the producer to ensure that it is planned and that it gets better.”

Too late

RTL Tonight starts very late, says Albert. “Yes, but I am not about programming. At a certain point you also learn a bit that you think: boy, just do your thing. Hopefully it will score at some point, people will get used to it, it will find his twist, things will be adjusted.”

The first changes have already been made: for example, the voice-over and ‘beautyshots’ are at the beginning-there was also one from Albert-gone. “Yes, you are coming to the show faster now, so that’s nice. I can’t say more than that I hope it will be okay. If you go into a new adventure, you hope it will end well. We’ll see.”
