145 meters high and 1.8 kilometers long: Ethiopia honors controversial megadam on the Nile

In Ethiopia, the Grote Renaissanceam on the Nile will be officially inaugurated on Tuesday. Work has been done on the dam since 2011. With a width of 1.8 kilometers and a height of 145 meters, the Dam is the largest in Africa and in the long term Ethiopia has to deliver 5,000 megawatts of electricity, just about double the current power production.
