The beer flows abundantly, but participants seem well aware of the pitfalls. “That can taste, but too much is never good. That is why we will soon go to the campsite, eat hot dogs, drink water, so that we are fresh at the table again at the next match.”
The organization also takes safety seriously. “We have camera surveillance and supervision of the parking. Anyone who would like to crawl drunk behind the wheel will not get away with that. We ensure that everyone returns home safely,” the organization emphasizes.
Although beer remains inextricably linked to Beerpong, many participants really see the championship as a sport. “We limit our drink to the competitions themselves, that keeps it fun and competitive,” says another team.
Even from the Netherlands fans travel to Lichtervelde. “I am from Amsterdam and thought: this is an original competition. Three years ago we practiced half an hour in the kitchen at home, and since then we have been participating in feeling. It is especially fantastic to make the atmosphere with this.”
