The man fell from a catamaran around half past twelve. That happened at De Cocksdorp, in the north of the island. The victim could no longer come on board independently and drove away. The woman who was there had no sailing experience and immediately called the emergency services.

The coast guard pulled out with four lifeboats and a helicopter to help the man. “He swam to a sandbank on his own,” says a spokesperson for the Coast Guard. “The helicopter picked up the victim at the Zandbank.”

Medical staff of the Coast Guard has checked the man; But he was not injured during the water adventure. The Coast Guard brought the catamaran to the beach. There the man and wife were reunited.
