Roosendaal politics goes deep through the dust as a result of the destructive report on the administrative culture in the expiration years. During the committee meeting on Thursday evening, both councilors and college members apologized about the situation that got out of hand. A number of parties believe that alderman Evelien van der Star also cannot stay on.

The unsafe working atmosphere in which there was even a plague culture led to the departure of two aldermen last year. Civil servants at the city office were also regularly victims of intimidation or abuse by administrators.

“This report has made a deep impression on our residents and perhaps it also touches people in the hall. I think that everyone who feels personally deserves deserves. The report is not to settle old bills. It is intended to learn from working on recovery and improvement,” said Mayor Mark Buijs.

Motion of no confidence against alderman Van der Star

In the report, the role of alderman Van der Star is also critically examined. She was personally guilty of bullying behavior that led to the departure of her colleague Sanneke Vermeulen. For opposition party List de Regt, she has thereby lost its credibility as an alderman. Group chairman Eric de Regt will therefore possibly insist on her departure at the upcoming council meeting. “This behavior cannot remain without consequences,” said De Regt.

The alderman is not going to step up because she says she never had the intention of bullying someone. “But the feeling is there and for that I repeat my apologies,” says Van der Star. The driver has since hired a coach to help her with how she comes across to others: “My direct communication can be misunderstood. I have learned a lot and that is a profit.”

“Where some have been guilty of wrong behaviors, we all have not succeeded in preventing, recognizing or stopping this.”

Sebastiaan Hamans of the CDA called it ‘impressive’ that many colleagues dared to look in the mirror in public. His VVD colleague Menno Nefs emphasized that the disordered administrative culture cannot be attributed to individuals. “Where some have been guilty of wrong behaviors, we all have not succeeded in preventing, recognizing or stopping this. We all bear responsibility with that.”

Whether a possible motion of no confidence from the List De Regt against Alderman Van der Star can count on a majority in the city council is still the question. Next week the committee will continue to meet on the management culture. On September 18 the subject is on the agenda of the city council.
