With the “run of her life” Amanda Anisimova makes up for the embarrassment of the Wimbledon – also because of a “painful” video study.
The American tennis player Amanda Anisimova at the US Open recovered for her tearful Wimbledon drama. Two months after the 0: 6, 0: 6 in the final of London, the 24-year-old won 6: 4, 6: 3 against the Polish IGA Swiatek of the same age in New York.
She gave the first two match balls, then an unattainable network roller brought her the success of the US Open winner from 2022. With the semi-finals she topped her already best US open cutting, so far she had never reached the third round.
Video analysis of the Wimbledon-Schmach
“To come back to Wimbledon is very special for me,” said Anisimova. At the press conference, she explained that the bitter bankruptcy against Swiatek, as preparation “As painful it was”to have looked at again: “Just to see what I can avoid or what went wrong. Today I was not afraid at all.”
In Wimbledon, Anisimova had been overwhelmed in her first Grand Slam final and had bitter cried at the award ceremony. Previously, a Wimbledon endgame 6: 0, 6: 0 had left-1911. Most recently, Steffi Graf had not played a game in a Grand Slam final at the French Open in 1988.
Early break gives security
Anisimova lost her serve in the quarter -finals of New York, but then found well into the game. A Re-Break brought security to the strong inflation. Swiatek could not dominate as usual and outsider Anisimova actually secured the set win thanks to another break.
In the second round, too, it remained balanced, Swiatek began to struggle and couldn’t find it back into the game. The nerve -wracking Anisimova made it decisively.
Swiatek then went hard with her own performance, but also praised her opponent’s performance and aggressiveness. This had nothing to do with the Wimbledon final. “It was completely different. She moved better, she played better. Everything was different,” said Swiatek.
Historical Wimbledon final
The Polish has to give up hopes for its second Grand Slam title in series. Anisimova meets the two-time Japanese US Open winner Naomi Osaka on Thursday in the semifinals after her two-set victory against the Czech Karolina Muchova.
