As expected, the German basketball players have confidently completed the European Championship preliminary round. An outsider is waiting in the round of 16.
World Champion Germany celebrated the fifth victory at the European Basketball European Championship at the preliminary round end and will be dealing with outsider Portugal as an unbeaten winner of Group B in the round of 16. The team led by captain Dennis Schröder beat Host Finland on Wednesday evening in Tampere with 91:61 (50:36).
For the first time in general, a selection of the German Basketball Association (DBB) remained unbeaten in the preliminary round of a Eurobasket. The top scorer in the German team, which had not conceded a tournament defeat on the way to the 2023 World Cup title, was Franz Wagner (23 points). Finnish star player Lauri Markkanen from the NBA-Club Utah Jazz came to eleven points.
Germany had already booked the round of 16 through its third win, the next opponent Portugal made it to the last minute through a success in the decision game against Estonia (68:65). It is the first participation of the Iberer in an EM final round. It is not yet known at which time the DBB team has to do in Riga/Latvia at the weekend.
