For more than forty years, the Ferris wheel of the Lamberink family has been a regular shot at the Volendam Fair. They only had to skip during Corona and two years ago – when the wheel was in Zandvoort for Formula 1. At the beginning of this week, the trucks with attractions Volendam rolled in again, but those of the Ferris wheel stayed away.
“Is there no Ferris wheel this year?” Many villagers wondered when another attraction was built in the permanent place.

According to the municipality of Edam-Volendam it is simple: the operator of the Ferris wheel has not registered this year. “The municipality is responsible for the turning people in Edam and Volendam and has the organization of both fairs, and therefore also of the attractions that are there and anyone who registers for the fairs, placed at Buro de Kermisgids,” writes municipal spokesperson Leendert Klein.
He continues: “It is true that there is no Ferris wheel this year. The operator of the Ferris wheel did not register this year for the fair in Volendam. We are not known to us.”
But Ferris wheel builder Jan Lamberink sees it differently: “We would have liked to have been there, but did not receive a permit”.
The organizer of the fair, André Vonk from Buro de Kermisgids, contradicts this: “They have never registered, so you don’t get a permit. Everyone has to do that, and I have indicated it several times.”
Next year back
Despite the confusion, there will be a Ferris wheel again next year and they are always welcome, Vonk promises. “We just don’t know exactly where.”
