There is doubt that the parade is an inseparable part of the annual party week. In fact, since three years, the parade has been officially cultural intangible heritage and therefore protected. Participants in the 71st edition fully understand that. “The whole village shows up every year, really everyone participates or comes to watch. There is nothing better!”, Says one of them.
Little sleep
Participating in the parade requires some perseverance, and not only because the carts are built by the villagers themselves. The festival takes place in the morning, so those who experienced the end of the tent party last night had to do with little sleep.
“I am not drunk, just a bit tired. We have a party party until half past five, but we are back at seven,” confesses a Kwakelaar who is dressed as the Pope. Santa Claus and US President also came to the party this year, and toasts.
