At a landslide in Sudan, at least 1,000 people were killed, Reuters news agency reports on the basis of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army recovery group active in Darfur. During the shift, a village in the Marra Mountains in the west of the country was destroyed. Only one person survived the disaster, the rebel group reported Monday. The village “has now been completely equated with the ground,” said the rebels in a statement.

According to the group, the disaster took place on Sunday, after days of heavy rainfall. They have also appealed to the United Nations and international aid organizations to help them store the bodies of the victims.

Many Sudanese had sought refuge in the Marra Mountains because of the battle that is raging between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Darfur.
