The tears of Astrid Holleeder in the premiere of RTL Tonight are a hit, but does the program hold the curious viewers? “The always present tension that characterizes VI is completely absent.”

The new late talk show RTL Tonight has started with a nice scoop. Host Renze Klamer had the very first live TV interview with Astrid Holleeder yesterday, who also treated her brand new colleagues on a number of TV tranes when it was about her brother Willem Holleeder. Panel member Lale Gül also did not keep it dry.

RTL Tonight is hit

RTL Tonight is by far the most important project that RTL 4 is launching this year, so all eyes are focused on the viewing figures: how is it viewed? Tina Nijkamp knows. It will not be the lead-in, because Expedition Robinson was immediately before the big winner of the evening with a score of 1.3 million viewers and 47.1 percent in the commercial target group.

‘Mega’ and a ‘crazy start’, Tina writes on her analysis canal. “Then the big premiere of RTL Tonight. What very exciting for Renze, the team and RTL. How did it go? Good. 897 thousand viewers and 29.0 percent market share in 25 to 54 years. A nice score.”

‘Really very handsome’

There are 440 thousand less than Expedition Robinson, but the viewer did not drop out during the broadcast. “The minute analysis of RTL Tonight looks pretty stable. Little decline even after the break, but very striking: there are not many extra viewers for the interview with Astrid on.

Competitor Hélène Hendriks had to be satisfied at the same time with 793 thousand viewers (12.8 percent). Small difference: RTL Tonight had a lead-in of 1.3 million viewers and Hélène stood after a repetition viewed by 363 thousand people. “So one million viewers less inflow. Wow !!! That is really great.”

‘Pooh’

How did Tina find the first RTL Tonight? “Pooh. That is perhaps the best word that fits RTL Tonight with this first broadcast. What fell on? Aboutaleb with enormous incomplete and weird statement about Peter R. de Vries and his role in Vaatstra case. Strange that was not returned. Bizar.”

The decor is beautiful, but the background music sounded too loud, says Tina. “In terms of form, it is mainly a news of the day-look-A-like with that short news in between. Not very useful in terms of compare to put the fixed news of the day guests Saskia Belleman and Lale Gül on the Desk in the first broadcast.”

“Not like VI”

According to Tina, the interview with Astrid Holleeder lasted a very long time. “Also a lot of repetition of what we already knew. Renze Klamer had a minimal role, the clients took over interview. The presenter role is also less important than with his earlier talk show and it is strange that Renze could not look at the clients at guest Astrid.”

What does TV-Duider Victor Vlam think? He sees a lot of ‘speed and variation’ in RTL Tonight, but he writes down X: “That is at the expense of spontaneity and authenticity. The always present tension that characterizes VI is completely absent so far.”

Clear fear

Victor also believes that Renze is trying to resist a left image. “At the beginning of RTL Tonight, Renze immediately makes it clear that there are two right -wing clients at the table, from VI. There is clearly a fear of being framed as a left.”

“Conclusion after the first episode of RTL Tonight: in terms of content it was still a bit flat. Despite the many pilots, I think RTL Tonight should look very critically at the program. Renze has clearly not found his way in this new role. He was largely invisible.”
