VfL Bochum does not come up in the 2nd Bundesliga. On the fourth matchday, the harmless league relegated with the 1-2 (1: 1) against Prussia Münster conceded the third defeat of the young season with the 1-2 (1: 1).

Joshua Mees scored Prussia to victory with a double pack (27th minute/49.). An own goal of Jano Ter Horst equalized the interim Bochum. Münster has been unbeaten for three league games and celebrated the second win in a row. “With the two goals I just pushed and the two balls flew in quite well. So today, I think you can be completely satisfied”the Münster -based double scorer analyzed quite soberly.

The home side got off to a better start to the game and came to the first chance of the game after two minutes. Prussia goalkeeper Johannes Schenk was wide awake.

The VfL endeavored to take the booklet of action in his hand, but Münster managed to keep the game balanced and would almost have taken the lead after 13 minutes. The end of Marvin Schulz just passed the goal.

Bochum’s pass lacquer leaves Münes Mees

Otherwise, the game mainly took place between the penalty areas. In the 27th minute, Münsters Schulz had an idea. With a clever steep pass, he sent Mees on the left into the one-on-one with Felix Passlack. Bochum compensation out of nowhere

Mees came to the ball in midfield and suddenly had no opponent. 25 meters in front of the goal, he pulled into the middle without being kept for horn and with the help of the right inner post for the renewed Münster -based lead (49th).

Bochum endeavors, but ineffectively

The hit had an effect on VfL. A short urge of the Bochum survived Münster unscathed, then the game rippled. Münster defended disciplined, Bochum fell little to nothing.

Bochum increased the risk again in the final phase, but the Münster victory was no longer in danger. Onyeka missed the best Bochum chance of the second half, who, like at the beginning of the game, failed. Prussia coach Alexander Ende called the final phase “Heartbeat final” and praised the “Great performance” his team. Bochums keeper Timo Horn said: “I think it was really good to the sixteen what we played, but then the decision has to come (…) If we do not play cleanly and technically make such mistakes, we can play every system in the world, then we will not be successful.” His trainer Dieter Hecking seemed visibly eaten after the game: “Of course we imagined it differently. Regardless of three defeats after four games, this is not what we expect from ourselves. That is why this is an enormous damper for everything.”

Bochum in Paderborn, Prussia receives Düsseldorf

After the international break, VfL Bochum continues with an away game in Paderborn (12.09.2025, 6.30 p.m.). Münster welcomes Düsseldorf on Sunday (14.09.2025, 1.30 p.m.).
