Dani Filth, front man of Cradle of Filth, released a detailed statement on the sudden exit of keyboardist Zoë M. Federoff and guitarist Marek “Ashok” Šmerda on Friday. As well as their Allegations against band and management.
Dani Filth’s version of events
Federoff had initially declared her resignation for “personal reasons”, a few days later the band’s announcement followed that her husband Šmerda was released “with immediate effect”. The situation quickly escalated: both blamed the band publicly such as “inadequate payment”, “unprofessional behavior” and “ridiculous clowning”.
“It is time to explain my side of history after so many accusations against the band, management and me were raised personally,” wrote Filth on social media. He emphasized that it was important to him to address the matter in peace after careful consideration and despite the ongoing South America tour.
Filth in particular rejected the claim that musicians should sign restrictive contracts: “We forbid nobody to work with other bands, we only ask for timely planning.” Criticism of the band managers had also been torn out of context and falsified them publicly.
Alcohol, dispute and escalation
Filth also described tensions in the private ratio of spring and Šmerda: “Strong alcohol consumption, escalating quarrels and repeated public disputes have created a very stressful climate for everyone involved.” Šmerda threats to sue the band because of the use of his picture would also have tightened the situation.
The singer also published text messages in which Šmerda compared the management with Sharon Osbourne. “Ashok stood in front of her and put on with the royal family of the heavy metal – and we don’t let anyone talk about Ozzy Osbourne’s wife,” said Filth.
Tour continues without incident
Despite the quarrels, the South America tour continues, replacement musicians have already taken over the positions. “I could continue talking forever, but I just wanted to clarify a lot and then be out of your hair,” Filth ended his statement. “Thanks to all the bands, fans and musicians who supported us in this matter.”
