The DFB sports court closed Marco Antwerp. The former Eintracht Braunschweig coach is said to have tried to move a player to avoid an assignment.
Ex-entrepreneur-Braunschweig coach Marco Antwerpen is no longer allowed to do his job for the time being. Frank Döpper, his assistant at VfL Osnabrück, was also blocked by the DFB. The sports court found both guilty for attempted game manipulation. After a five-hour negotiation chaired by Stephan Oberholz, the verdict against the two football teachers fell on Thursday.
Antwerp was closed for one year. Döpper received a three -month lock. The DFB control committee originally called for 14 months of lock and 3,000 euros in fine for Antwerp as well as four months lock and 500 euros for Döpper.
“In contrast to defense, we assume that both attempted to affect the course of the game,” Oberholz explained the punishment. The accused’s lawyer, Horst Kletke, had pleaded for acquittal.
Rießelmann, who was awarded to Lohne at the time, rejected the request and informed his consultant. The 21-year-old player reported: “I should pretend an injury. I was stunned and couldn’t believe it.” Rießelmann played in the final and scored a goal in the 4-2 victory of the outsider.
Both trainers can object to the sports court judgment within a week.
