Sophie Turner regrets to have been online so early after coming to “Game of Thrones” as a teenager. The actress, who joined the cast at the age of 14 as Sansa, confessed, that social media have seriously added to their mental health in the early years.

Fight with psychological stress

“I think social media just got really big after I started at ‘Game of Thrones’, so I had a few years of rest and then had to adapt,” she said in a new interview with “Flaunt”. “It had such a profound influence on my mental health, more than I can tell you. It almost destroyed me in numerous moments.”

Turner told “Flaunt” that she suffered from anxiety, depression and an eating disorder during this time. Therapy helped her to get out again. “One of the most important things in my life is to talk about mental health: it is vital,” she emphasized.

The young cast from HBO’s “Harry Potter” reboot, whose filming has recently started, is particularly worried. Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton can be seen as Hermine Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

“When I see the children who are now playing in the new ‘Harry Potter’, I just want to hug them and say: ‘It will be okay, but keep away from social media.’ Stay with your old friends, continue to live with your family, ensure that your parents are there as supervisors – it is so important to have a counterweight to this crazy hype. ”

No acting career for your daughters

Turner added that she would strictly ban her daughters, whom she has with ex-husband Joe Jonas, an early acting career. “Oh God, they won’t act! Not before they are at least 25!” she said to “Flaunt”.

She also spoke about her new film “Trust” and her experience at “Game of Thrones”, including the scene in which her figure Sansa is sexually abused by Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). Turner was 19 years old at the time.

“I had the feeling – and still have it – that ‘Game of Thrones’ put things into the light where many said: ‘Oh god, you shouldn’t show something like that’ – and I understand that it can trigger, I understand that,” she said. “But I had the feeling that we women and their centuries -long struggle – against the patriarchy, against objectification and constant sexual violence – made justice.

Proud of “Game of Thrones” and new film “Trust”

“I think if ‘Game of Thrones’ would appear today, we definitely would have trigger warnings with us. But I am very proud of being part of where you are not afraid to present atrocities against women. I am proud to have been part of this discussion.”

In “Trust”, now in the cinema, Turner plays a scandalized Hollywood star who is looking for privacy. But when she withdraws in a remote house, everything takes a dangerous turn. Directed by Carlson Young (Upgraded, The Blazing World), the script comes from Gigi Levangie (“The Starter Wife”). The cast also includes Rhys Coiro, Forrest Goodluck, Gianni Paolo, Renata Vaca and Katey Sagal.
