‘We demand the night’ is based on a movement from the 70s, ‘Take Back the Night’. This action spread throughout the world and since then, marches are still being organized worldwide that bring femicide to the attention.

The promotion receives a lot of attention in the Netherlands, within 48 hours more than 2.5 tonnes have already been collected. The money is used to organize a long -term movement. For example, foundations that are committed to women’s rights, victims and behavioral scientists are involved.

Initiator of ‘We demand the night’, Danique de Jong, wants to use the attention that the movement receives to make the Netherlands aware of the problem. “But we also want something to change. That is why we are already working with a team of volunteers on the next phase. Because if everyone knows how it is for a woman to cycle home at night, it is time to make it very clear how it should be. What can men do to turn the tide? This campaign is only the start of the day and night.
