Stefan’s brother Daan is now in the starting blocks to take over his father’s company. Fisheries has had a hard time in recent years. Regulations, disappeared fishing grounds and changing yields make the profession difficult. But Daan cannot be brought up by a little headwind.
“It’s just a very nice profession. It is actually not to be described how much freedom you have. People think that you are just sitting at sea but it just works. Beautiful profession!”, Says Daan Tijsen, “a few more years and then that ‘old man’ can retire.”
Young Wieringers
According to his brother Stefan, the optimism of his brother is something he encounters more often. “We see that there is a lot of youth here on Wieringen. That is very positive and you don’t see everywhere. There are also many young guests who want to take over the company or step into the profession. And we are very happy with that.”
This edition of the Flora and Fishery Days will in any case enter the books. With the sun high in the sky, the fleet inspection was again a success. “We have 35 ships. There are a few more in other ports, they are not there. But this is already unique for us,” concludes Stefan Tijssen.
