A press conference after the game has become a news event: Thomas Müller accidentally revealed a personnel of the US team.

After his starting eleven debut for the Vancouver Whitecaps, everything revolved around Thomas Müller. The former FC Bayern player shot his new team in added time by penalty against St. Louis City SC to victory (3: 2). After the duel in the Major Soccer League (MLS), Müller was also asked about his teammates-and the 35-year-old involuntarily chatted news.

In the press conference, Müller emphasized that the team rhythm was disturbed by the upcoming international break. Then he slipped out a detailed detail: central defender Tristan Blackmon will travel to the US national team for the first time. “Tristan is now nominated for the USA …”, Müller began before he was surprised by the reactions in the press room.

Müller’s eyes got bigger and bigger than he realized based on the reactions of the journalists that it was not a publicly known information that he was revealing. His reaction: “Oh”. Then the 2014 world champion tried to withdraw his statement and “sucked” the information again. Müller grinned in the room filled with laughter and said: “In the end it is as it is. I heard what I heard. Congratulations to Tristan.”

The 27-year-old defender was previously considered a candidate for the Canadian national team. As ESPN reported in May, national coach Jesse Marsch had been looking for a conversation with Blackmon. At that time, an insider spoke of a “waiting” behavior of the player, since his hope of a calling through the US selection was still available. Now Mauricio Pochettino, coach of the US team, seems to have taken this step.

The United States received South Korea in Harrison, New Jersey on September 6th. Three days later, a test against Japan in Columbus is on the plan. For Müller and the Whitecaps, it will then be against Philadelphia on September 14th.
