Swedish Oskar Edlund admits that pointing Antti Sainio with a finger on the 400 -meter fence was not the smartest act.
– It may have been a bit unnecessary, but at that moment the adrenaline just boiled over. But it was not personal, just between countries, Edlund comments.
– Today is not running for yourself, but for the whole country. Had to send him a small message.
Sainio was furious about the Swedish trick and opened in YLE’s TV interview.
– It humiliated us at the end, it looked finger. Next time we encounter, I’ll destroy it in that country, Sainio steamed.
According to Edlund, the runners had no cinema before the race, and they didn’t even know each other. The Swede said he would like to throw a hand with Sainio.
Sweden won the fence race 14-8.
Athlete
In December 2023, Edlund fell on the use of cocaine while he was celebrating. There was an uproar in the western neighbor. The runner was sentenced to daily fines.
Wada counts cocaine as a forbidden substance in competitions, but not in other situations.
Edlund deeply regrets his actions.
– They were one of the harshest days of my life. It was a big mistake and I’m sorry I wasn’t the kind of role model I should be. In the future, I want to set a good example and show that you can learn from mistakes.
– Such risks should never be taken.
