Urban security has become one of the main challenges of the municipalities of Buenos Aires. In that context, Vicente López opened Shieldthe Urban Control Station for Defense and Order, presented as The most modern and technological security center in the province of Buenos Aires. The mayor of Soledad Martínez defined it as the heart of a system that combines patrol, video surveillance and artificial intelligence with a single objective: anticipate crime and offer rapid responses to neighbors.

Own intelligence building

Located on Maipú Avenue, in front of the Fifth of Olivos, a shield rose on a land that had been recovered by the municipality for years. The building, of 1,000 m² distributed in two floors and two subsoils, houses all controls of control and emergencies. The ground floor is dedicated to Video surveillance with two high -definition videowalls that allow to supervise the movement of the entire city. There are also the offices of the municipal patrol, transit, SAME and Civil Defense.

On the upper floor are the Radio Operators Room and the Situation Chamber, where real -time operations are coordinated. The subsoils, meanwhile, concentrate garages, deposits and service spaces. It is a nerve center that integrates logistics, technology and personnel in the same place to gain speed in decision making.

Shield centralizes the supervision of more than 2,600 cameras distributed in the party, which allows it to cover more than 85% of the territory. The system is not limited to observing: it uses intelligent analysis software and artificial intelligence algorithms capable of detecting suspicious movement patterns, recognizing patents, identifying motorcycles linked to crimes and activating alerts in real time.

To this are added thermal cameras, 200 safe points with panic buttons and direct communication with the center, and a detection ring to combat the motochorrosone of the most frequent crimes in the northern part of the conurbano. The system works as an interconnected network where each element reinforces the other.

Patrol and non -lethal weapons

Video surveillance is combined with a fleet of municipal patrolmen who receive direct information from the control center. In this way, the immediate detection of a criminal act can lead to the sending of a mobile in seconds. To this is added the recent incorporation of Non -lethal weapons byrnadesigned to deter without fatal consequences, which places the municipal patrol in line with international urban security standards.

One of the most innovative aspects of shield is the unified office. There all the rapid response forces converge: Municipal Patrol, SAME, Firefighters, Civil Defense and Transit. This means that, given any emergency – it is already an accident, a fire or a criminal act – the areas can be coordinated simultaneously without depending on multiple calls or bureaucracies.

Technology and security policy

Mayor Soledad Martínez stressed that shield is not an isolated work, but part of a Integral Security Model based on two pillars: more police presence in the streets and greater technological investment. “We put a shield because we represent what we want to do: protect the neighbors. This center is up to the best cities in the world,” he said during the inauguration.

Martínez also warned that, although Vicente López records security rates superior to those of other municipalities, it is still exposed to the violent context of the conurbano. “We are not an island. We work every day as a team so that this is the safest place in the province. We will always be on the side of those who comply with the law,” he said.

Shield works as a great technological brother: a central that integrates cameras, sensors, patrols and trained personnel under the same roof. The model seeks that each alert have an immediate response and that artificial intelligence becomes an ally to prevent crimes. Vicente López’s commitment is clear: to use technology not only to monitor, but to organize a security system that works as a true shield against the progress of crime in the conurbano.
