Cycling – David Haverdings from Zuidlaren and Ruud Junior Nagengast from Beilen are part of the Dutch promise selection for the European Cycling Championship. The KNWU today presented the team that will come into action in the French Ardèche at the beginning of October.
The two Drenten ride the road race with the men under the age of 23. They were selected by talent coaches Marco Postma and Lucas Eenkhoorn because of their performance this season. According to the KNWU, the selection consists of riders with different qualities, so that the team can participate on several fronts.
For Haverdings it is a new chance to show itself internationally. The Zuidlaarder is known as a strong rider in hilly terrain, exactly the type of trail that awaits him in the Ardèche. It is not the first time he drives in an orange shirt. He previously made a name for himself as a cyclist and is working steadily on his development on the road this season.
Nagengast has also earned its spurs in national competitions and sees the European Championship as a stepping stone to more international competitions. He adds his experience as a go -getter and hard driver to the team. Together with teammates such as Senna Remijn, this must ensure a balanced formation.
The KNWU emphasizes that the team complements each other well. “If they know how to find each other, we can achieve a good result as a collective,” said talent coach Lucas Eenkhoorn in the press release of the Wielerbond. This also includes the Drenthe riders in the same breath with the most important Dutch promises of the moment.
