On Thursday evening, the Amsterdam police arrested a 22-year-old man who is suspected of committing a serious sexual offense on the Weesperzijde in Amsterdam last week. The man has no permanent residence and residence, and was arrested in an asylum seekers’ center, the police confirm.
The incident took place last Friday: a woman was attacked, beaten and seriously sexually abused around 0.30 am. The victim had to go to the hospital, the perpetrator fled after the crime towards the center of the city.
In the same environment, the body of 17-year-old Lisa from Abcoude was found last Wednesday. Agents found her around 4 am on the roadside along the Holterbergweg, after emergency services had received a report that someone was in the water.
A connection between the two cases does not exclude the police, a spokesperson told NRC. “In the event of crimes of this seriousness, connections are always looked at.” There are, however, two separate research teams.
On Thursday, a man was also arrested who is suspected of a serious sexual crime in the forests around Zeist. Two incidents had occurred shortly after each other at the end of last week in which women in the Kerckebosch district, just southeast of Zeist, were approached by a man during the day. One of them fell victim to “serious sexual violence,” after which the man fled into the forest.
