The WHO for the first time performed her song “Going Mobile” published in 1971. The performance took place on August 16 at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, and marked the start of its North American farewell tour “The Song Is Over”.
Nine songs after the beginning of the concert, the British rock band surprised the audience with “Going Mobile”, which originally appeared on the legendary album “Who’s Next”. Guitarist Simon Townshend, the younger brother of Pete Townshend, took over the singing while Roger Daltrey played harmonica. Fan recordings of performance spread online shortly after the concert.
Over 50 years after the publication, the band plays the song live:
The set contained seven of the nine pieces of “Who’s Next”, including “Bargain”, “Love Ain’t for Keeping”, “Behind Blue Eyes”, “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, “The Song Is Over” and “Baba O’Riley”. There were also classics such as “I Can’t Explain”, “Who Are You”, “Pinball Wizard”, “My Generation” and “You Better You Bet”.
Health challenges
Daltrey previously told the magazine “The Times” that the tour should take place in North America because the American fans and the country’s music landscape have always inspired him. At the same time, he spoke about the physical stress of touring and his health challenges after a previous meningitis.
Change on the drums
The farewell tour also brings with it a change in the band line -up. The long -time drummer Zak Starkey will not play along, instead Scott Devours, previously drummer in Daltrrey’s solo projects. Townshend justified the change with the need for a new orientation, while Devours described responsibility as “enormous”.
The WHO leads the tour through North America, among others to Newark, New Jersey, and Las Vegas, and ends on September 28th.
