Prussia Münster failed in the first round of the DFB Cup – but above all on himself. Despite a top performance, Hertha BSC had the upper hand after penalty shootout. After a goalless 120 minutes, Charalambos was the only player, Berlin won 5: 4.

Officially, it is said in everyday second division life that Hertha is one of the biggest promotion candidates, while Münster is all about relegation. In the cup on each other, this thesis was initially completely turned upside down. Because the only team that offered top football was the Prussians, while Hertha needed good luck and a strong goalkeeper.

Hertha keeper Ernst saves his team twice

Already in the third minutes there was the first Dusel moment of the capitals. Morten Winkler kicked Etienne Amenyido in his own penalty area against the calf, which at least not unjustified penalty whistle failed to do so. A little later, the hosts combined the Berlin defensive, after all, Marvin Schulz was completely freely ahead of Tjark Ernst, who reacted outstandingly (12th).

The U21 national goalkeeper was also very strong against Amenyido when Münster overrun the Herthaner with a counterattack (19th). It was one of the many evidence that the game was surprisingly unilaterally in favor of the team of coach Christian Pander – whether the Prussians combined or attacked at speed, Hertha had no means and even seemed desperate.

Berlin makes it into the cabin with luck without conceding a goal

And then Ernst also claimed luck. A cross from Luca Bolay was deflected and became a very dangerous number for the Berlin goalkeeper. The 22 -year -old misjudged and jumped past the ball – however, he tits on the gate and not in his housing (31st). The chances increased again in the phase, Joshua Mees (33.) and again Amenyido (35th) also awarded the next top opportunities.

Shortly before the half -time whistle, Hertha had a header chance from Dawid Kownacki (45.+1), but overall the “old lady” saved himself goalless during the break. After that, the game continued as before, but Jorrit Hendrix was also missing half a meter for a spectacular goal from 22 meters (51st). Two minutes later, the Dutch came to the header after a corner kick from two meters, but could no longer check it properly.

Kownacki awards the Lucky Punch for Hertha

Only then did the Berliners manage to keep the Münster people at bay – but without getting goal opportunities themselves. The game bumped down, Prussia looked flat after the efforts and many missed opportunity, while Hertha did not seem as if it had the necessary class to put the opposing goal in danger. Instead, Münster had the next big chance through Yassine Bouchama, but he also headed over (84th).

And then Berlin suddenly had the big moment – but was just as inability in front of the goal as the opponent. Fabian Reese placed the ball across Kownacki, who only has to insert freely from five meters, but has a significantly warp (89.). But Münster also had the victory on the foot, but Hendrix also failed from eleven meters to Ernst, who was just right (90.+2). And so it went into the extension.

Münster escapes space

And then in Münster it was lucky. After a dream pass from Mickael Cuisance, Kownacki started, but is caught by Simon Scherder’s arm on his face – actually a clear foul and red for the Prussian defender, who was the last man, but the whistle was missing (97.). Overall, Berlin was the better team in extra time, but goals didn’t want to fall, Reese missed the last chance in the 121st minute. So the decision had to be made in the penalty shootout.

The first five shooters were successful there – then Charalambos Magridis banged the ball on the crossbar. The Berliners all stayed cool, as the last Herthan scored Sebastian Grönning and ensured the happy progress of his team.
