Andrés Mego’s name was known only in the circles of the new right, although his fame, in that environment, was not limited only to the Argentine borders. However, on July 16 that changed. At his home in Villa Pueyrredón, a very dark event occurred: six people violently entered their home, but not to steal it. They put it on your knees, they put a consortium bag on the head and hit it wildly. Mego lost consciousness after they hit him on his face with a 10 kilos dumbbell. He was saved from a miracle, although he was left with the ribs and broken teeth, and 40 points in his head.

The episode, however, took more transcendence when the journalist Eduardo Feinmann told him on his television program. There he said that “close” from the founder of the Editorial Le leaves of the South were convinced that the attack had had “something” to do with the surroundings of the vice president, Victoria Villarruel (see box). The editor then denied that information, which at that time had run as gunpowder in the middle of the internal of the ruling party.
However, in the coming months Mego’s last name, which is also one of the organizers of “The right Fest” will reappear on the scene. It is that the editorial that command will publish several new books by authors of the ruling party, starting with Javier Milei himself. And they are heading to close the year with a show at the Movistar Arena, with the president’s star presence. The cultural battle continues.

Bookseller

South leaves was born in 2010, founded by Mego and his wife. The man came to build his own editorial after a life dedicated to paper, although he started well from below: at age 11 he had to leave the primary to work, and began to distribute daily in a kiosk. In that position they also sold books, so that passion was rapid. Then came his first job in a bookstore. It was in Cuspid, where he started as a “cleaner” of the books that just came to the place. As Mego usually remember, there was a day that changed his life: a woman came to the place threatening to commit suicide if she did not find a book to help her. The man, very believer, began to wonder about the lack of spiritual and religious texts in the “secular” bookstores. South leaves, in fact, was born as an editorial with a strong religious imprint.

The great media hit that his company had was at the start of the libertarian government. It is that there Nicolás Márquez and Marcelo Duclos published “Milei, the revolution that did not see coming”, which quickly became a sales success. The catalog of its editorial is full of authors close to the government. “Broken story, scenes of explicit Peronism”, by the new member of Fundación Faro, Diego Recalde (whose name is playing to formally integrate some function into the ruling party), and “Idiot generation”, of the president’s identity, Agustín Laje (who comes from rejecting Karina Milei’s offer of being the first candidate for deputy in Córdoba).

The plagiarism of Milei

At the end of the year, however, a hinge time for the publisher will come. It is that everything points to leading an event at the Movistar Arena, the place that Milei chose to close the 2023 presidential campaign, and where now authors of South Leaves will present new works.

The main protagonist of the day will be the president, who will be taking out a book on economics -although there is the doubt of whether, unlike his previous works, he will write it or again he will commit the crime of plagiarism, as revealed by news on several occasions. Patricia Bullrich would also be releasing a text, and in the world of the new right they rule out that it will not be the only one of the ruling party in having a place on stage that night. “We are in a war, and our best weapon is the book,” is a phrase that usually repeats mego. That year night will then be another battle.
