Art Rooijakkers puts an end to the stubborn rumors: he indeed leaves as a presenter of News of the Day, just as colleague Malou Petter already did. “I feel less at home.”
The daily SBS 6-Journal News of the day actually had to become a current affairs section with a conservative telegraph edge, but presenters Art Rooijakkers and Malou Petter thought it was far too much the big Wierd Duk show. Too right. After she resigned from Talpa, he now also announces his departure from the news program.
Art away
Art doesn’t want anymore. “As a journalist I learned to start the news, so I will do that now: I will stop at News of the Day. I started this exciting new project in January. Developing and presenting a daily news show felt like a chance,” he writes down Instagram.
“As it should be with a program in development, it didn’t go without a struggle. Sometimes with verbal fighting that the viewer could enjoy, sometimes behind the scenes. No shine without friction.”
‘Not my place’
In the meantime, Art no longer feels comfortable. “Three quarters of a year later I have to conclude that the desk of news of the day is not my place. The program started as a mix of news and opinion. The latter has become an ever -increasing part, and I feel less at home.”
He continues: “That is a shame, but I tried it and I look back on it. I prefer to take a step that turns out not to be the right one than never taking a risk. I wish the editors and all those involved of news of the day success and thank my colleagues for the great cooperation.”
Hand in the salary
In contrast to Malou, Art remains at Talpa. “I look forward to the other projects that I can do for Talpa, starting with a fun, new program that you will soon hear more about!”
Last weekend, Art already played on such a construction. The presenter will probably have to hand in a salary because of this, he thinks. What does he earn then? About 300 thousand euros, Tina Nijkamp believes.
Thomas New
Thomas van Groningen is the new regular presenter of the program. “I really believe in news of the day as a program. This can be the place where the Netherlands is talking about the day’s conversation at the beginning of the evening, in an accessible and cheerful way,” he says.
He continues: “We take care of the facts, our experts for the interpretation and the opinion makers try to get us thinking. I am really looking forward to it!”
What does Talpa say?
What does Talpa think of it? TV boss Frans Klein says: “In recent months, Thomas has proven himself as a substitute for News of the Day with sharp journalistic interviews and a clear presentation. With the departure of Art we now opt for one recognizable sight and we are happy that this is Thomas.”
He continues: “At the same time, we thank Art for his contribution to the structure of the program. We are happy that he will remain connected to Talpa Network and look forward to the new programs that we will make with him.”
Pim Sedee remains involved as a regular substitute in News of the Day.
