Was there racist insults against Christopher Antwi-Adjei during the game between Lok Leipzig and Schalke? The game was interrupted.

In the 12th minute of the game in the 1st main round of the DFB Cup, Antwi-Adjei wanted to make a throw-in. Fans of Lok Leipzig, who were behind him, shouted “East Germany”, after a short break, Antwi-Adjei reacted to another call, turned briefly to the fans and then went to the referee assistant.

Antwi-Adjei: “Racist insult from a single person”

“A racist insult from the ranks”I gave it, said Antwi-Adjei in the ARD and explained: “The insult came from a single person.” He called the incident “shameful and disappointing”.

S04 captain Kenan Karaman discussed with referee Dr. Max Burda, then there was a announcement by the stadium spokesman that “Discriminating calls are to be avoided”. One condemned discrimination, “This is our point of view as a club. Racism and discrimination have no place on the soccer field.” The encounter continued after two -minute interruption. Antwi-Adjei was continuously whistled, and parts of the audience also reacted with whistles.

Referee Burda: “Have that Three-step plan triggered “

Referee Burda said after the game: “The player described us that he had been racially insulted. We had no perception but we take it very seriously and also stem protectively in front of the player.” He triggered the first stage of the three-step plan.

These three levels are:

  • Level 1: Interruption and initiation of a loudspeaker announcement.
  • Level 2: Interruption of five to ten minutes, the teams should go into the changing room.
  • Level 3: Abort

“We signaled the player that we protect him and if something should be again, we trigger the second stage”said Burda. “Fortunately, that was not necessary.”

Alex Feuerherdt, spokesman for DFB Schiri GmbH, confirmed that the incident is noted in the game report. The DFB control committee must now decide whether to investigate Lok Leipzig.

Lok speaker: “Couldn’t verify it”

Lok spokesman Carsten Maschulle stated at “Sky” that the club had asked for people to exist, but nobody noticed anything. “We couldn’t verify it in the end. We have an employee who is a wheelchair user who is exactly or almost at the point where the player was. He heard nothing. We also asked a bit about it, nobody heard anything.”

Schalke posted the slogan “#steastebauf against racism!” And placed a photo of Antwi-Adjei. Schalke won the game 1-0 after extra time.
