The sad news was confirmed by Ylelle Halonen’s immediate circle.
When he was young, Halonen quickly became the top of Finnish ski jumping. It was only at the age of 19 that he achieved a normal Olympic silver medal at the Squaw Valley Winter Games in 1960.
Halonen competed at the club level in the colors of Asikkala’s fresh and Lahti Ski Club. In 1965 he reached the Finnish Championship.
The Olympic medalist’s competition career ended in 1969.

Halonen is a gymnastics teacher from its original education and worked as a physical education teacher at Lauttasaari Co-educational School in the 1970s.
Later, he also worked as a ski jumping manager and marketing manager in the Finnish Ski Association and as a ski coordinator for the International Ski Association (FIS). He also served as a ski jumping judge at the Trondheim World Cup in 1997.
Halonen was chosen as coach of the year in Finland in 1981. It was another Finnish legend, Matti Nykänenbreakthrough year.
In 2007, Halonen was awarded the Pro Sports awarded by the Ministry of Education.
