Handball goalkeeper Nikola Portner (31) from SC Magdeburg has been blocked as a result of his violation of the anti-doping regulations until December 10, 2025. As the national anti-doping agency (NADA) announced on Friday, she agreed with the Swiss keeper, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Handball Bundesliga (HBL) on an agreement to settle the case.
The Portner’s lock is therefore 21 months and is imposed retrospectively from the date of sampling. From October 10, 2025, Portner can therefore take part in team training again, two months later he is entitled to use for competitive games. Portner was positively tested on Methamphetamine on March 10, 2024 during a competition control.
The parties unanimously explained that there was no evidence of Portner’s intentional behavior. The agreement replaces the decision of the HBL Presidium from the summer of 2024, according to which was originally targeted by a lock. In addition, the appeal procedure in front of the International Sports Court (CAS) and a pending procedure before the Cologne Higher Regional Court are hired.
“The agreement now closed ends this, especially for Nikola and his family, more than a stressful situation,” said Marc-Henrik Schmedt, Managing Director of Handball Magdeburg GmbH. The agreement confirms the attitude of the association and pattern that no intentional doping had been presented to increase performance.
Portner had been able to appear after his suspension for the team of coach Bennet Wiegert. Among other things, he had a large part in winning the Champions League in June, when he had a great form in the semi -finals against FC Barcelona.
