Alica Schmidt pulls the ripcord and ends her season prematurely. After a surviving Corona disease, the 26-year-old continues to lack full physical performance.
Actually, she wanted to be on the track until the end of August-but now it is over: Alica Schmidt broke off her athletics season prematurely. The 26-year-old announced on Wednesday in a video story at her Instagram channel.
The 800-meter runner had recently struggled with the aftermath of a Corona disease and no longer found her usual form. At the German Championships there was already the final station for them in the semi -finals.
“I have now actually decided to end my season early than planned,” said Schmidt. The reason: she “no longer really got up”. In their view, there would have been no sense to make competitions.
Despite the disappointment, she speaks of a “reasonable decision”. Actually, she would have continued “great, super gladly until the end of August”, but it was not possible for health.
On Thursday, Schmidt wants to be examined by a doctor to ensure that “simply having nothing after the Corona infection”. With the break, she hopes that “hopefully everything will soon be back on a good, normal stand”.
Schmidt was over 800 meters for the first time this season. Before that, she had concentrated on the 400-meter distance-especially in the season, she was regularly used at international championships. However, the achievements of the past races were not enough this year to recommend itself for the World Cup in Tokyo (13th to 21 September). Her best time of 2: 03.21 minutes remained more than three seconds above the German World Cup standard.
“I have to say that unfortunately I still haven’t quite found my physical hundred percent health back,” says Schmidt. In the middle of the season it was “great, super annoying”.
She describes the past few days as “mentally a bit difficult” because she was lacking a clear end of the season. Now her gaze is directed – with vacation and two weeks of time she wants to collect strength again.
