In the summer of 2024 Marvin Seidel took part in Olympia in Paris. Quite exactly a year later, the badminton professional and his family suffer a difficult stroke of fate.

The joy of family happiness was great, now the pain is immeasurable: badminton international Marvin Seidel and his wife Katrin have lost their newborn twins Clara and Jakob. The children died just a few days after birth.

In June, the 29-year-old had made the pregnancy public on Instagram-with words full of anticipation. “I’m so excited about what’s coming,” wrote Seidel at the time. Around two and a half months later, he now shared an emotional contribution: “Our twins Clara and Jakob were only with us for a few days, but they gave us more love than we had ever thought possible,” he wrote on Wednesday evening to a photo that shows a cross as well as a small elephant and a zebra- plus the birth and death dates of the two children.

As can be seen from the location of the contribution, Clara and Jakob were buried in the old cemetery in Sankt Ingbert in Saarland. The exact cause of death was not announced.

Clara died on August 5, four days after the birth. A day later her brother Jakob. In his post, Seidel wrote that they would “grieve deeply”, but also “be grateful for the time we were allowed to spend with them”.

Seidel has been playing for the German badminton national team for many years. He played his first big tournament at the Junior World Championships in 2012. In the men’s doubles he won silver at the European Championship in Kiev 2021, a year later in Madrid gold.

In 2024 Seidel competed together with Mark Lamsfuß at the Olympic Games in Paris. But the duo had to end the tournament prematurely – a violation of Lamsfuß forced her to retreat before the second group game.
